Lagos Government deploys more resources as refuse buildup sparks concern among residents.
Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has directed an immediate expansion of waste evacuation operations across the state following complaints over rising refuse accumulation in some communities.
The governor’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Gbenga Akosile, said relevant agencies and service providers had been mobilised to clear waste backlogs and restore efficient sanitation services.

The directive involves the Ministry of the Environment and Water Resources, the Lagos Waste Management Authority, and the Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency, among others.
The government acknowledged the challenges caused by the waste buildup, noting that Lagos generates about 13,000 tonnes of waste daily, but assured residents that the situation was temporary and that improvements would be seen in affected areas.
Residents, businesses and community leaders were urged to support sanitation efforts by ensuring proper waste disposal and avoiding activities that block roads, drainage channels and designated collection points.
