Private and public schools warned against imposing extra charges on parents as government threatens sanctions for violators.

The Ogun State Government has directed all public and private schools across the state to immediately stop organising graduation ceremonies and end-of-session parties.

The directive, issued through the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology, followed reports that some schools were allegedly charging parents additional fees for such celebrations.

In a circular signed by the Director of Education (Private Schools), A.A. Bisiriyu, on behalf of the Permanent Secretary, school owners and administrators were warned against organising graduation events for pupils and students in all classes.

The ministry said the move was in line with resolutions reached during the 2025/2026 pre-resumption stakeholders’ meeting held in Abeokuta.

Ogun Government Bans School Graduation Ceremonies, End-of-Session Parties

It warned that any school found violating the directive would face appropriate sanctions and urged education stakeholders to comply fully.

The decision is expected to generate reactions among parents, school owners and education stakeholders, as graduation ceremonies and end-of-session parties have become common practices in many schools across the state.
