Extension to February 2027 aims to support National Single Window implementation and ensure smooth leadership transition in Customs Service

President Bola Tinubu has approved a final six-month tenure extension for the Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Customs Service, Adewale Adeniyi.

According to a statement by Presidential spokesman Bayo Onanuga, the extension will run until February 2027, following the expiration of Adeniyi’s previous tenure on August 1, 2026.

The Presidency said the extension is intended to enable Adeniyi consolidate the implementation of the National Single Window project and oversee a seamless succession process within the Customs Service.

During the transition period, Adeniyi will work with the Customs Board to facilitate the promotion of qualified officers to the rank of Comptroller and ensure the retirement of personnel who have reached the mandatory age or years of service limit.

A graduate of Obafemi Awolowo University, Adeniyi joined the Customs Service in the late 1980s and rose through the ranks, serving as Deputy Comptroller, Comptroller, Assistant Comptroller-General, and Acting Deputy Comptroller-General before his appointment as Comptroller-General by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in June 2023.
