Federal High Court dismisses Omoyele Sowore’s application for the judge’s recusal and orders his remand pending hearing of his bid to overturn bail revocation.

A Federal High Court in Abuja has ordered the remand of African Action Congress (AAC) presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, at the Kuje Correctional Centre pending the hearing of his application seeking a stay of the order revoking his bail.

Justice Mohammed Umar gave the ruling on Monday, directing that Sowore remain in custody until the court determines the motion filed by his new counsel, Adeyinka Olumide-Fusika (SAN).

The court also dismissed Sowore’s application requesting the judge to withdraw from the case over alleged bias, ruling that the trial would continue under the same judge.

Justice Umar subsequently adjourned proceedings to June 24 for the hearing of the application challenging the revocation of Sowore’s bail and the bench warrant earlier issued for his arrest.

The court had on June 16 revoked Sowore’s bail after he failed to appear for trial and granted an application by the prosecution, leading to the issuance of a bench warrant.

Sowore is being prosecuted by the Department of State Services (DSS) over allegations that he made false claims against President Bola Tinubu by referring to him as “a criminal” in posts published on his social media accounts.
