Federal lawmaker says work is progressing on the Alakia–Asejire axis as the Minister of Works directs contractors to prioritize road shoulders for quicker reopening.
The lawmaker representing Egbeda/Ona-Ara Federal Constituency, Akin Alabi, has provided a fresh update on the ongoing reconstruction of the Ibadan–Ife Expressway following an inspection tour with the Minister of Works, David Umahi.
Alabi disclosed that construction is actively progressing on the project, including the Alakia–Asejire section within his constituency. He explained that although work initially commenced from the Ilesha end of the highway, engagements with the minister and contractors ensured that reconstruction also began from the Ibadan axis.

During the inspection, Umahi expressed satisfaction with the pace of work but directed a review of the concrete mix being used on the main carriageway to ensure compliance with federal quality standards.
A major outcome of the visit was the decision to temporarily suspend work on the main carriageway and immediately focus on reconstructing both the inner and outer shoulders. The move is expected to allow sections of the road to be reopened sooner, easing traffic congestion and improving movement for commuters while full-scale reconstruction continues.

Alabi commended President Bola Tinubu and the Minister of Works for their commitment to delivering the critical road project, expressing optimism that the expressway would be completed to the highest standard and within schedule.
