Professor Ogundipe takes over leadership of the National Universities Commission board, succeeding Prof. Olufemi Aina.
President Bola Tinubu has appointed former Vice-Chancellor of the University of Lagos, Prof. Oluwatoyin Ogundipe, as Chairman of the Governing Board of the National Universities Commission (NUC).
Ogundipe, a renowned botanist and current Pro-Chancellor of Redeemer’s University, succeeds Prof. Olufemi Aina, who resigned less than a year after his appointment.

According to a statement by presidential spokesman Bayo Onanuga, the 66-year-old academic is expected to provide strategic leadership for the NUC, with a focus on university funding, academic stability, quality education, and global competitiveness.
President Tinubu said the appointment aligns with the Renewed Hope Agenda and aims to strengthen credibility, access, and excellence in Nigeria’s university system.
