Joint operation recovers AK-47 rifles, ammunition, pistols, and military uniforms as authorities foil alleged plot to rearm criminal groups.

A joint security operation has intercepted a cache of arms and ammunition allegedly destined for criminal elements in Kogi State, leading to the arrest of three suspects in Sokoto State.

According to the Kogi State Government, the operation was carried out by local security operatives, Hybrid Forces under the Office of the National Security Adviser, the Department of State Services (DSS), and the Nigerian Army following credible intelligence.

Recovered items include two AK-47 rifles, magazines, 67 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition, two pistols, 12 rounds of pistol ammunition, and military uniforms. Authorities also impounded a Golf 2 vehicle allegedly used to transport the weapons.

The government said the suspects had been under surveillance for more than two weeks and described the seizure as a major blow to criminal groups attempting to regroup after recent security crackdowns, including the elimination of notorious bandit leader Kachalla Battijo.

Officials praised the coordinated efforts of security agencies, stressing that intelligence-driven operations remain key to sustaining peace and security in Kogi State.
