Police Expose Gunmen’s Disguise Strategy in Borno NECO Students’ Abduction

One teacher killed, 10 students rescued as security forces intensify search for remaining victims after attack on Lassa community.

The Borno State Police Command has revealed that the gunmen who attacked a school in Lassa Community, Askira Uba Local Government Area, disguised themselves as traders on the community’s market day before abducting students sitting for the National Examinations Council (NECO) examination.

The Police Public Relations Officer, Nahum Daso, disclosed this on Tuesday during an appearance on Channels Television’s The Morning Show, describing the attack as a tragic incident that targeted students writing their examinations.

According to Daso, the assailants concealed their weapons, infiltrated the community under the guise of traders, and later opened fire indiscriminately, throwing residents and students into panic.

The attack claimed the life of one teacher, while another sustained gunshot injuries.

Daso said security forces under Operation HADIN KAI have so far rescued 10 students during search-and-rescue operations, adding that efforts are ongoing to determine the exact number of those abducted, as several students fled into nearby communities during the attack.

He noted that officials from the Borno State Ministry of Education are conducting a headcount with the school and parents to establish the number of missing students.

The Nigerian Army also confirmed the rescue operation, stating that troops, supported by air surveillance and strike aircraft, engaged the attackers during a firefight around the Daggu area, leading to the successful rescue of 10 unharmed victims.

Military authorities said the rescued students are receiving necessary care, while operations continue to rescue the remaining victim(s) and apprehend those responsible for the attack.
