Residents barred from movement on Saturday as security agencies intensify measures to ensure a peaceful and credible council poll.
The Edo State Police Command has announced a statewide restriction of movement from 12:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 11, 2026, to enhance security during the local government elections.
In a statement issued by the command’s spokesperson, Eno Ikoedem, the police said all vehicular and human movement would be prohibited throughout the period, except for officials of the Edo State Independent Electoral Commission (EDSIEC), accredited election observers, media personnel, security agencies, emergency responders and other essential workers on election duty.

The command disclosed that security operatives have been deployed across the state’s 18 local government areas to protect voters, electoral officials and sensitive materials, while maintaining law and order.
Commissioner of Police Monday Agbonika urged residents to comply with the directive and conduct themselves peacefully, warning that anyone who violates the restriction or attempts to disrupt the election would be arrested and prosecuted. He reaffirmed the command’s commitment to ensuring a free, fair, peaceful and credible electoral process.
