Former APC chieftain endorses Bimbo Adekanmbi for Oyo governorship race, pledges support for APM’s political agenda.

Former Labour Party governorship candidate in the 2023 Oyo State election and former Vice Chairman of Egbeda Local Government under the All Progressives Congress (APC), Hon. Alhaji Tawfik Tayo Akinwale, has officially defected from the APC to the Allied Peoples Movement (APM).

Akinwale said his decision to join the APM was informed by his commitment to supporting a political movement that prioritises sustainable development, good governance and the welfare of the people of Oyo State.

He noted that the move aligns with his vision for a more inclusive and progressive political future for the state.

As part of his declaration, Akinwale threw his weight behind Governor Seyi Makinde’s reported 2027 presidential ambition and endorsed the APM governorship candidate, Chief Bimbo Adekanmbi, for the 2027 Oyo State governorship election.

He called on his supporters and other well-meaning residents of the state to unite in advancing the ideals of good governance and inclusive leadership.

Akinwale said collective efforts would be crucial in building a stronger political movement capable of sustaining the developmental strides recorded in Oyo State.

His defection marks another significant political realignment in Oyo State ahead of the 2027 general elections, as parties continue to reposition and forge new alliances in preparation for the polls.
