Dr. Wasiu Olatubosun says the late Abese Olubadan dedicated his life to preserving Yoruba history, culture and the heritage of Ibadanland.

Oyo State Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Dr. Wasiu Olatubosun, has expressed deep sorrow over the death of renowned journalist, historian, author and the Abese Olubadan of Ibadanland, Chief Lekan Alabi, describing his passing as a monumental loss to Oyo State, Ibadanland and the Yoruba nation.

In a condolence message, Olatubosun said the late elder statesman devoted his life to preserving, documenting and promoting the history, traditions and cultural heritage of the Yoruba people through his writings, public engagements and advocacy for cultural renaissance.

He described Alabi as an outstanding cultural ambassador whose immense contributions would continue to inspire generations.

Oloye Lekan Alabi lived a life of purpose and service. His passion for promoting our cultural identity, preserving our historical heritage and projecting the image of Oyo State and Ibadanland remains unmatched. His passing has created a vacuum that will be difficult to fill, the commissioner said.

Olatubosun also described the late Abese Olubadan as an encyclopedia of Yoruba history whose depth of knowledge made him a respected reference point for scholars, government institutions and cultural enthusiasts.

He noted that the Ministry of Culture and Tourism benefited immensely from Alabi’s wealth of experience, adding that his guidance and support for programmes aimed at preserving cultural heritage and promoting tourism were invaluable.

The commissioner extended condolences to Governor Seyi Makinde, the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Ladoja, the Olubadan-in-Council, the Alabi family, the people of Ibadanland, members of the journalism profession and all lovers of Yoruba culture.

He prayed for the peaceful repose of the late cultural icon and for strength and comfort for everyone affected by the loss.
