Aviation authorities confirm no casualties after emergency responders swiftly contained the fire at Lagos airport.
A fire incident at Terminal 2 of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA) in Lagos on Sunday triggered an emergency response from aviation authorities before normal flight operations were restored.
The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) said its Aerodrome Rescue and Firefighting Service (ARFFS) was immediately deployed to the scene to contain the fire and prevent it from spreading.
According to the agency, emergency personnel acted swiftly to safeguard passengers, airport workers and critical facilities within the terminal.
FAAN confirmed that no injuries or fatalities were recorded during the incident.
“The FAAN Aerodrome Rescue and Firefighting Service is currently responding to the incident and working diligently to contain the situation,” the authority said in its initial statement.
In a later update, FAAN announced that the situation had been brought under control and operations at the terminal had fully resumed.
“Normal operations have resumed at Terminal 2 of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, following the earlier incident. Passengers are being processed, and flight activities are continuing as scheduled,” the agency stated.
The authority has yet to determine the cause of the fire, adding that further information will be released after ongoing assessments and investigations.
The Murtala Muhammed International Airport remains Nigeria’s busiest aviation hub, serving thousands of domestic and international passengers daily.
