Governor inaugurates road, fire station, shops and car park, says local councils are fulfilling their constitutional responsibilities.

Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has declared that local government councils in the state are functional and delivering impactful projects, citing ongoing infrastructure development across the state.

The governor made the remark on Thursday while commissioning a 2-kilometre road, a newly constructed fire service station, shops and an ultra-modern car park at Bodija International Market in Ibadan. The projects were executed by the Ibadan North Local Government.

Governor Makinde, who named the car park after Ibadan warlord Balogun Oderinlo, said the projects demonstrate that local governments in Oyo State are effectively discharging their constitutional responsibilities without interference.

He noted that the new infrastructure would enhance commercial activities, improve the ease of doing business and further strengthen the state’s economy.

The governor commended the Chairman of Ibadan North Local Government, Hon. Seun Olufade, for executing the projects and urged traders to continue supporting his administration’s development agenda.

Makinde also assured residents that his administration would ensure the continuation of infrastructure development beyond the end of his tenure.

In separate goodwill messages, the Chairman of Bodija Market and the Otun Iyaloja of the market, Alhaja Oyebamiji, thanked the governor for approving and supporting the projects, describing them as critical to improving safety, convenience and economic activities within the market.

The Babaloja of Bodija Market, Alhaji Ismael Jimoh, also expressed appreciation to the governor for creating an enabling environment for businesses to thrive in the state.

The commissioning ceremony was attended by the Deputy Governor, Abdulraheem Bayo Lawal; members of the National and State Assemblies; the Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Musibau Babatunde; the Chief of Staff, Segun Ogunwuyi; the Head of Service, Dr. Adenike Fasina; local government chairmen, traditional rulers, market leaders and other dignitaries.
