Governor pledges camp upgrade, seeks private sector support as over 6,000 corps members benefit annually.

Ekiti State Governor, Biodun Oyebanji, has approved the comprehensive renovation and upgrade of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) Orientation Camp in the state as part of his administration’s commitment to youth development and improved welfare for corps members.

Governor Oyebanji announced the approval during a meeting with the NYSC State Coordinator, Ige Adeola, at the Government House, where the condition of facilities at the orientation camp was discussed.

He said the renovation was necessary to ensure the camp, which receives more than 6,000 corps members annually, reflects the state’s commitment to excellence, youth development and hospitality.

The governor also pledged to mobilise support from prominent Ekiti indigenes to sponsor projects within the camp, complementing the state’s intervention to ensure the renovation is completed within a short period.

Oyebanji noted that the project could require the temporary relocation of the October 2026 orientation exercise to a neighbouring state to allow uninterrupted renovation work.

He reaffirmed his administration’s support for the NYSC scheme and commended corps members for their contributions to healthcare, education and community development across Ekiti State.

Earlier, the NYSC State Coordinator appealed for urgent government intervention in upgrading facilities at the orientation camp and the state secretariat, presenting a three-phase implementation plan to address longstanding infrastructural challenges.

Adeola also praised the governor for previous interventions, including the approval of meal subsidies and improvements to camp sanitation facilities, expressing confidence that the latest initiative would significantly enhance the welfare of corps members serving in the state.
