OYCAP provides a roadmap for climate resilience, green jobs, climate finance and sustainable development.

The Oyo State Government has published its Climate Action Plan (OYCAP) 2026–2040, making the document available to citizens, investors, development partners, researchers and other stakeholders worldwide.

The government said the publication was aimed at creating opportunities for partnerships and investments while enabling stakeholders to align their activities with the state’s climate goals.

The Commissioner for Environment and Natural Resources, Ademola Aderinto, said OYCAP provides a science-based roadmap for addressing climate-related challenges, including flooding, heatwaves, drought, environmental pollution, food insecurity and climate-related health concerns.

According to him, the plan aligns Oyo State’s climate actions with the Paris Agreement and Nigeria’s Nationally Determined Contributions, strengthening the state’s prospects of accessing climate finance and attracting development partnerships.

Aderinto said the document would guide Ministries, Departments and Agencies in planning and implementing climate-related projects across sectors including health, agriculture, infrastructure and the environment.

He said the plan includes strategies for improved flood management, wetland protection, early warning systems and climate-smart agriculture, as well as measures to address the health effects of heatwaves, air pollution and poor waste management.

The commissioner also highlighted the economic opportunities contained in the plan, including green jobs and investments in waste-to-energy projects, recycling, renewable energy and tree planting.

He urged local and international investors and development partners to explore opportunities created by OYCAP, assuring them that the state was open to partnerships that would support sustainable and climate-resilient development.

Aderinto described the plan as more than a policy document, saying it was also a tool for action, investment, funding and accountability.

He urged stakeholders to study the plan and identify areas where they could contribute to its implementation.

The Oyo State Climate Action Plan 2026–2040 is available for public access and download through the Environment Portal of the Oyo State Government website.
