The Federal Government has expressed condolences to China over the deadly floods and landslides that struck along the China-Nepal border on August 26, 2026.
In a statement by the spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Oluwafemi Adeniyi, Nigeria said the disaster claimed many lives, injured hundreds and caused extensive destruction in Gyirong County, Tibet.
The government also sympathised with the families of Chinese and Nepali victims, as well as foreign nationals from Australia, India, Malaysia, the United Kingdom and the United States who were affected by the disaster.
Nigeria commended Chinese President Xi Jinping and rescue teams for their swift response and ongoing humanitarian efforts.
The Federal Government expressed solidarity with the people of China and prayed for the repose of those who died, as well as the recovery and comfort of the injured and displaced.
