Yusuf, 66, died on Friday after a brief illness, with the President praising his decades of public service and commitment to Nigeria.
President Bola Tinubu has mourned the death of the Chairman of the National Population Commission (NPC), Dr Aminu Yusuf, describing his passing as a major loss to Niger State and Nigeria.
Yusuf, 66, died on Friday, August 28, 2026, after a brief illness.
In a condolence message, President Tinubu sympathised with the government and people of Niger State, particularly residents of Wushishi Local Government Area, as well as Yusuf’s family, friends, colleagues and associates.
The President described the late NPC chairman as a distinguished public servant and patriot who dedicated his life to serving his community, state and country.
Yusuf previously served as Executive Chairman of Wushishi Local Government Area and held various political and administrative positions in Niger State. He also served on the board of the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) and was Special Adviser on Political Affairs to the Niger State Governor.
President Tinubu said Yusuf, despite his brief tenure as NPC chairman, brought a clear vision and commitment to strengthening the commission and improving Nigeria’s demographic data for effective planning and development.
The President urged the NPC leadership and staff to uphold Yusuf’s legacy by continuing the reforms and institutional strengthening he championed.
President Tinubu prayed for the repose of Yusuf’s soul and asked Almighty Allah to grant his family and loved ones the strength to bear the loss.
