Association Demands Immediate Action on Minimum Wage, Training Fund, Allowances and Promotion Arrears
The Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) has appealed to Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, to urgently address outstanding arrears and welfare concerns affecting resident doctors at LAUTECH Teaching Hospital, Ogbomoso.
In a letter dated September 5, 2026, and signed by NMA President, Dr Afekhide Omoti, the association expressed “deep concern” over the persistent welfare challenges facing members of the Association of Resident Doctors (ARD) at the hospital.
The NMA said several agreements reached with the Oyo State Government remained unimplemented despite months of advocacy by the resident doctors.
Among the outstanding issues are the payment of 2025 minimum wage arrears, 2026 Medical Residency Training Fund, corrected professional allowances, call/work-hour regulatory policy, and upgrade and promotion arrears.
The association warned that the welfare challenges could affect healthcare delivery, noting that resident doctors work long hours under intense pressure.
Burnout, excessive workload, and poor remuneration are not just welfare issues, they directly affect patient safety and health outcomes for the people of Oyo State,” the NMA said.
The NMA urged Makinde to personally intervene and direct the immediate implementation of the outstanding agreements, saying this would help de-escalate tensions, restore doctors’ motivation and strengthen healthcare delivery.
It also called for a monitoring mechanism to ensure that all outstanding issues are resolved within 30 days.
The association commended ARD LAUTECH and Oyo NMA for their patience over the past three months, describing the doctors’ demands as legitimate.
The NMA reaffirmed its willingness to work with the Oyo State Government to find lasting solutions that protect healthcare workers and the citizens they serve.
