Anambra Monarchs Honour First Lady for Her Contributions to Communities Across Nigeria
First Lady Oluremi Tinubu has been conferred with the traditional title of Ugo Eze Anambra by traditional rulers representing the 179 communities in Anambra State.
The title, meaning “the glory of the king” or “a Royal Eagle,” was conferred on her by the Chairman of the Anambra State Traditional Rulers Council, Igwe Chidubem Iweka, at Dr Alex Ekwueme Square, Awka, on Thursday.
Iweka said the title was bestowed in recognition of Tinubu’s “compassionate works” and her contributions to communities across the country.
Tinubu was in Anambra for a one-day working visit during which she launched the National Community Food Bank Programme for the South-East Zone.
She also commissioned an ICT centre at the Federal Polytechnic, Oko, and attended the launch of the food bank programme at the Old Government House, Amawbia.
The First Lady later participated in the flag-off of a statewide empowerment programme initiated by Anambra State Governor’s wife, Nonye Soludo.
Under the programme, 5,000 beneficiaries across the state’s 21 local government areas are expected to receive business grants, vocational tools and equipment for agriculture, agro-processing, beauty care and small-scale enterprises.
Responding to the honour, Tinubu thanked the traditional rulers and said she was deeply honoured by the conferment.
The Anambra title came a day after Tinubu received another traditional title in Imo State. She was conferred with Oso Di Eme I of Imo State, meaning “She who supports her husband,” during her visit to the state on Wednesday.
