Each Player Receives $100,000 as President Says Super Falcons’ Cash Rewards Are Being Finalised
President Bola Tinubu has described the full payment of the presidential rewards promised to D’Tigress as the first time a Federal Government has fulfilled a sporting reward package of such scale within one year.
President Tinubu stated this in a post on his X handle on Thursday, following confirmation by the National Sports Commission that the outstanding cash rewards for the women’s basketball team had been paid.
Each D’Tigress player received the naira equivalent of $100,000, while each official received $50,000, completing the cash component of their reward package.
The package also includes national honours and three-bedroom houses in Abuja, following the team’s record fifth consecutive FIBA Women’s Afrobasket title and seventh overall triumph in 2025.
President Tinubu said the delay in fulfilling the financial commitments was due to the need to follow legally required processes and ensure that all aspects of the promise were properly implemented.
He also disclosed that the Federal Government was concluding the outstanding cash rewards for the Super Falcons, who won their 10th Women’s Africa Cup of Nations title in Morocco earlier this year.
According to the President, the Super Falcons players and officials have already received their house allocation documents and National Honours certificates.
He added that the promised houses and national honours for Super Eagles players had also been redeemed.
“Our athletes who bring honour to Nigeria deserve more than applause. They deserve a country that keeps its word,” President Tinubu said.
He added: “My promise to every Nigerian athlete is: make Nigeria proud, and come back to a grateful nation.”
