The Oyo State Government has suspended all school excursions, field trips, sports competitions and other activities outside school premises across the state over rising security concerns.
The directive follows last week’s coordinated abduction attack on schools in Oriire Local Government Area, where several students and teachers were kidnapped and some victims remain in captivity.

The order, issued by the state Ministry of Education, takes immediate effect and overrides all previously approved external school activities.
In a circular dated May 22, 2026 and signed by the ministry’s Permanent Secretary, B.T. Oyinloye, the government said the decision became necessary due to growing security threats after the Ogbomoso kidnapping incident.
According to the circular, the safety of students and school staff remains the government’s top priority.
School administrators were directed to keep students within school premises during school hours and report any suspicious activities around schools to security agencies.
The directive was circulated to education authorities including TESCOM, SUBEB, tutor-generals, zonal directors, principals and head teachers across the state.
The latest move comes amid increasing concerns among parents and residents over the security of schools in Oyo State following the deadly attack in Ogbomoso.
