FCT Police Impound 30 Vehicles Over Tinted Glass Violations

Police say crackdown targets criminals using concealed vehicles for kidnapping, one-chance robberies and other crimes.

The Federal Capital Territory Police Command has impounded more than 30 vehicles as it commenced enforcement of the ban on tinted glasses, obscured number plates and improperly registered vehicles across Abuja.

Speaking on Friday, FCT Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Sanusi, said the operation was launched to curb the use of such vehicles by criminals involved in kidnapping, one-chance robberies and other violent crimes within the Federal Capital Territory.

According to Sanusi, intelligence reports revealed that many criminal elements deliberately use tinted vehicles and concealed number plates to hide their identities and evade security checks. He noted that the enforcement exercise was approved by the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu.

The police commissioner stressed that the operation is not aimed at law-abiding residents but at denying criminals the cover they exploit to commit crimes. He added that owners of the impounded vehicles would be prosecuted in line with existing laws and the FCT Road Transport Regulations Act, 2023.

Sanusi urged residents to support the exercise by reporting suspicious vehicles and activities, describing the crackdown as part of broader efforts to strengthen security and improve public safety in the nation’s capital.
