Senate President Seeks Probe Into Facebook Graphic Allegedly Designed to Stir Regional Resentment

Senate President Godswill Akpabio has petitioned the Department of State Services (DSS) over a fabricated graphic circulating on Facebook that falsely attributes a statement to him about Northerners and President Bola Tinubu’s 2027 re-election bid.

The graphic quotes Akpabio as saying: “Northerners, you will be the ones to suffer the most if you allow Tinubu to lose the election.”

In a petition signed by his Chief of Staff, Chinedu Akubueze, Akpabio said he never made the statement and that there was no date, venue, speech, interview, recording or credible report supporting the purported quotation.

The Senate President described the post as a manufactured quotation allegedly designed to provoke regional resentment and create tension.

The petition identified Abdullai Musa, Uzoma Chilaka and Engineer Ibrahim Umar Ammar as early amplifiers of the post and persons of interest in the investigation.

It stressed that their identification did not imply guilt, but said their digital records could help investigators trace the designer, original uploader and possible sponsors of the fabricated content.

Akpabio urged the DSS to urgently investigate the origin of the graphic and uncover the network responsible for creating and spreading it.

He also called for appropriate action against those found responsible for the alleged misinformation.
