17 Irregular Migrants Also Arrested in Adamawa, Including 13 Cameroonians and Four Chadians
The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has intercepted two persons in Adamawa State with ₦34 million in cash, allegedly linked to a kidnapping syndicate.
The Comptroller of Immigration, Sani Sule-Jega, disclosed this at a media briefing in Yola, saying the suspects were intercepted during an operation in the state.
According to Sule-Jega, preliminary investigations showed that the suspects claimed the money was intended to pay ransom for their abducted brother.
In a separate operation, the Adamawa Command also intercepted 17 irregular migrants at Rumde Baruw in Yola North Local Government Area.
The migrants were found at a private three-bedroom residence. Preliminary profiling showed that 13 were Cameroonian nationals, comprising eight males and five females, while the remaining four were Chadian nationals.
Sule-Jega said the command had observed an increasing use of private and unregistered apartments by undocumented migrants instead of conventional accommodation such as hotels.
He said the NIS was intensifying surveillance and intelligence-led operations to identify emerging patterns of irregular migration and strengthen border security.
The suspects and recovered cash were taken into custody for further investigation, while the Comptroller General of Immigration directed that they and the exhibits be handed over to the Nigeria Police Force for further investigation.
Sule-Jega urged members of the public to remain vigilant and provide credible information to security agencies to support efforts to maintain peace and security in the state.
