Union Demands Full Implementation of 2025 Agreement, Welfare Provisions for Academic Staff
The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Lagos State Government-owned Universities Joint Campus Group, has declared a total and indefinite strike across the three state-owned universities in Lagos.
The affected institutions are Lagos State University (LASU), Lagos State University of Education (LASUED) and Lagos State University of Science and Technology (LASUSTECH).
The union said the strike followed the expiration of a 14-day ultimatum issued to the Lagos State Government on August 31, 2026, without a satisfactory resolution or concrete plan from the government.
In a statement signed by the union’s officials across the three institutions, ASUU said the government allowed the September 13 deadline to lapse without initiating dialogue.
The union said its principal demand was the full domestication and implementation of the December 2025 ASUU-FGN Agreement across all Lagos State-owned universities.
It said the demand included the implementation of the Consolidated Academic Tools Allowance and other critical welfare provisions for serving and retired academic staff.
ASUU said the strike would remain in force until meaningful engagement leads to a satisfactory resolution and the state government signs, domesticates and implements the applicable provisions of the 2025 agreement in full.
The union described the action as a “rescue mission for Lagos State education” but said it remained committed to dialogue and would restore academic activities once the outstanding issues were addressed.
ASUU also said the strike had the backing of its national leadership and called on traditional rulers, religious leaders, alumni associations, civil society organisations and other stakeholders to support its demands.
The union urged students and parents to remain calm and law-abiding while efforts continue towards resolving the dispute.
