Bauchi governor assigns portfolios, reshuffles cabinet, vows to sustain development despite nearing end of tenure.
Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, has warned newly appointed commissioners against misappropriating public funds, urging them to manage the state’s resources prudently and ensure they are used for projects and programmes that directly benefit the people.
The governor gave the warning on Wednesday during the swearing-in of four newly appointed commissioners after their screening and confirmation by the Bauchi State House of Assembly.
He said the appointments became necessary following the resignation of some political appointees seeking elective offices ahead of the 2027 general elections, which created vacancies in the State Executive Council.
Governor Mohammed stressed that the activities of the new commissioners would be closely monitored, charging them to uphold accountability, transparency and due process in the discharge of their duties.
The newly appointed commissioners are Madaki Gololo (Ministry of Small and Medium Enterprises and Cooperatives), Bashir Yau (Ministry of Youth and Sports), Bashir Rishi (Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs), and Baraya Ibrahim (Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Investment).
The governor also approved the redeployment of some serving commissioners. Adamu Gabarin was reassigned to the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, Abdul Hassan to the Ministry of Rural Development and Special Duties, while Muhammad Shira was moved to the Ministry of Finance and Economic Development. Hassan Eliyakub (SAN) and Usman Usman retained their positions as commissioners for the Ministries of Local Government and Water Resources, respectively.
After administering the Oath of Office and Oath of Allegiance, Mohammed urged the commissioners to work closely with permanent secretaries and remain focused on implementing programmes that will improve infrastructure, create jobs and enhance the living standards of residents.
The governor also reassured the people of Bauchi State that his administration would remain committed to delivering impactful governance despite nearing the end of its tenure.
“Even in the twilight of our administration, we will not relent in making the lives of the people better,” he said.
He added that recent initiatives of his administration have expanded employment opportunities and strengthened security across the state.
