Comedian accuses politicians of exploiting tragedy for publicity, says Oyo voters cannot be deceived ahead of 2027 elections.

Popular Ibadan-based comedian and social commentator, Woli Abiodun Ibadan, has criticised politicians he accused of exploiting the recent Bode Market inferno for political gain ahead of the 2027 general elections.

In a strongly worded statement shared on social media, Woli Abiodun alleged that some politicians who had been absent from the lives of the people for years were suddenly visiting the affected market and making donations in a bid to win public sympathy.

According to him, genuine compassion should not be displayed only during times of disaster but should be reflected in consistent support for the people long before any crisis occurs.

The entertainer maintained that Oyo youths are politically aware and capable of distinguishing between sincere empathy and political opportunism, insisting that voters would not be swayed by short-term gestures or election-season donations.

Woli Abiodun also praised businessman and politician Benedict Akika, describing him as someone who has consistently supported artisans and traders over the years. He said Akika’s contributions to the welfare of ordinary people predated the market fire, describing him as a proactive leader committed to grassroots empowerment.

The comedian vowed to continue mobilising and educating Oyo residents ahead of the 2027 elections, urging them to reject what he described as attempts to manipulate the electorate through symbolic gestures and campaign rhetoric.

He also declared his support for Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde and Bimbo Adekambi, while reiterating that Nigeria’s interests should remain the priority.
