The Coalition of Northern Groups (CNG)

Northern coalition questions disparity in federal response, demands equal attention and security intervention for all victims nationwide.

The Coalition of Northern Groups (CNG) has accused the Federal Government of applying double standards in its response to recent school abductions in Oyo and Borno states, alleging that victims in the North have not received the same level of attention and intervention as those in the South-West.

In a statement issued by its National Coordinator, Comrade Jamilu Aliyu Charanchi, the group said the abduction of schoolchildren and teachers in Oyo State on May 15 triggered swift federal action, including high-level visits, security assurances and the approval of 1,000 forest guards. However, the coalition claimed that a similar abduction involving 42 pupils from Mussa Primary and Junior Secondary School in Askira Uba Local Government Area of Borno State on the same day has received little attention from the Federal Government.

The group argued that every Nigerian life should carry equal value regardless of geography, ethnicity or political considerations, warning that perceived disparities in security responses could deepen public frustration and undermine national unity.

CNG questioned whether the response would have been the same if the Oyo victims were from a remote Northern community and called on the government to intensify rescue efforts in both states. The coalition also urged authorities to strengthen school security, expand intelligence-led operations against terrorists and bandits, and adopt a comprehensive national strategy to combat insecurity. While condemning all acts of kidnapping and terrorism across the country, the group maintained that equal empathy, urgency and protection must be extended to all communities affected by violence.Your Attractive Heading
