High-level delegation condoles state government, promises intensified operations against bandits behind abduction and death of senior officer

A high-powered delegation from the Defence Headquarters has visited Katsina State Government to condole with the state over the death of retired Major General Rabe Abdullahi, who was abducted alongside his wife and later died in captivity.

The delegation, led by Major General I.M. Abdullahi, was received by Deputy Governor Faruk Lawal Jobe on behalf of Governor Dikko Umaru Radda. Military officers in the team assured that security agencies are closing in on those responsible and will ensure they are brought to justice.

The visiting team described the late general as a patriotic officer whose service to Nigeria would not be forgotten, adding that his death was a painful loss to the military and the nation. They reaffirmed the Armed Forces’ commitment to strengthening ongoing operations against banditry in Katsina and other affected states.

Responding, the deputy governor appreciated the military’s show of solidarity and reiterated the state government’s commitment to working with security agencies to combat insecurity and protect lives and property.

The visit ended with a one-minute silence in honour of the late officer, whose burial had earlier taken place at Gidan Dawa Cemetery in Katsina metropolis following funeral prayers attended by mourners.

The late Major General Abdullahi was reportedly abducted on May 30, 2026, along the Katsina–Matazu road alongside his wife. Authorities later said he died from complications linked to diabetes and hypertension while in captivity.
