INEC oversees voting across 16 LGAs as security agencies, observers monitor peaceful conduct of exercise

Residents of Ekiti State have turned out in large numbers to participate in the 2026 governorship election taking place across the state.

The election, organised by the Independent National Electoral Commission, is being conducted in all 16 local government areas, with voters arriving at several polling units as early as 7:00 a.m. ahead of the commencement of voting.

Although accreditation and voting began around 8:30 a.m. in many locations, the process proceeded with voters patiently waiting to exercise their franchise.

Security personnel were deployed across polling centres to maintain peace and ensure a smooth electoral process, while election observers monitored activities at various locations.

The election features the incumbent governor, Biodun Oyebanji, and candidates from other political parties competing for the state’s top seat.
