Chief Judge of the Federal High Court, Justice John Tsoho.

Court to suspend regular sittings from July 27 to September 11 as Abuja, Lagos, Port Harcourt and Enugu divisions remain open for emergency matters.

The Federal High Court has announced its 2026 annual vacation, which will commence on July 27 and end on September 11, with designated judges assigned to handle urgent cases during the period.

The approval was granted by the Chief Judge of the Federal High Court, Justice John Tsoho, in line with the provisions of the Federal High Court (Civil Procedure) Rules, 2019.

A statement issued on Wednesday by the court’s Director of Information, Catherine Christopher, disclosed that regular court sittings will be suspended during the vacation to allow judges their annual break.

Despite the recess, judicial services will continue through designated Vacation Courts in Abuja, Lagos, Port Harcourt and Enugu to address urgent and time-sensitive matters.

According to the statement, Justices J.O. Abdulmalik and O.A. Egwuatu will sit in Abuja, while Justices Akintayo Aluko and Ogazi F. Nkemakonam will preside in Lagos. In Port Harcourt, Justices P.M. Ayua and A.T. Mohammed have been assigned, while Justices F.O.G. Ogunbanjo and M.T. Segun-Bello will serve in Enugu.

The court advised legal practitioners and members of the public to file only urgent matters at the designated divisions during the vacation period.

The annual vacation is a routine exercise of the Federal High Court, aimed at providing judges with a period of rest while ensuring uninterrupted access to justice through special vacation courts handling emergency cases nationwide.
