Facility to Replace 64-Year-Old Centre and Strengthen National Grid Management

The Federal Government has commenced construction of a new ultra-modern National Control Centre for the Nigerian Independent System Operator (NISO) in Osogbo, Osun State.

The new facility will replace the existing 64-year-old control centre and is expected to strengthen the management and monitoring of Nigeria’s national electricity grid.

According to a statement by the Minister of Power, Joseph Tegbe, the centre will provide NISO with real-time visibility of the national grid and improve its ability to respond promptly to system events.

Upon completion, the facility will deploy integrated Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA), large-format displays and analytics to help operators detect developing faults, plan preventive maintenance and optimise available generation and transmission capacity.

The centre is also expected to improve responses to system disturbances, support the integration of renewable energy and strengthen Nigeria’s coordination within the West African Power Pool.

The project will further incorporate measures to enhance the physical and cyber security of the national grid.
