Student union commends Tinubu, Makinde, security agencies and community leaders as victims regain freedom after weeks in captivity.

The Federation of Oyo State Students’ Union (FOSSU) National Senate Council has welcomed the safe release of the students and teachers who were abducted in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State.

In a statement signed by the Senate President, Distinguished Senator Yekinni Sodiq A., and the Senate Clerk, Senator Jeremiah Iyanuoluwa Amao, the student body expressed gratitude to God for preserving the lives of the victims and ensuring their safe reunion with their families.

FOSSU also commended President Bola Tinubu and the Oyo State Government under the leadership of Governor Seyi Makinde for their commitment to securing the release of the abducted victims.

The union further appreciated the efforts of traditional rulers, including the Soun of Ogbomosoland, as well as Baales, community chiefs, security agencies, local hunters, and other stakeholders whose coordinated actions contributed to the successful rescue.

According to the statement, the Nigerian Army, Nigeria Police Force, Department of State Services (DSS), Oyo State Security Network Agency (Amotekun Corps), and other security operatives played significant roles in ensuring the victims regained their freedom.

While celebrating the positive development, FOSSU urged both the Federal and Oyo State Governments to strengthen security around schools to prevent future incidents. The union stressed that the safety of pupils, students, teachers, and other members of the academic community across primary, secondary, and tertiary institutions should remain a top priority.

FOSSU reaffirmed its commitment to advocating for a safe, secure, and conducive learning environment for students throughout Oyo State.
