Ebonyi governor pledges major infrastructure projects at the Nigerian Army training depot as he seeks land to support the state’s urban development.

Ebonyi State Governor, Francis Nwifuru, has appealed to the Nigerian Army to release a portion of its 989.7-hectare land in Abakaliki to facilitate the even and radial expansion of the state capital.

The governor made the appeal on Wednesday during the passing-out parade of the pioneer set of the 90 Regular Recruits Intake at the Nigerian Army Recruits Training Depot in Amasiri-Edda, which spans Afikpo and Edda Local Government Areas.

Nwifuru described the establishment of the training depot as a landmark achievement for Ebonyi State and Nigeria, saying it has strengthened national security while creating new opportunities for economic growth in the host communities.

He expressed appreciation to the Nigerian Army for its partnership and announced that the state government would fund major infrastructure projects at the depot, including a hospital, administrative block, emergency and maternity wards, recruit wards, a theatre, a mortuary, walkways, a generator house, and two solar-powered boreholes with a combined capacity of 50,000 litres.

The governor also thanked President Bola Tinubu for approving the establishment of the training depot, describing the decision as a demonstration of the Federal Government’s commitment to strengthening Nigeria’s security architecture and promoting inclusive development.

Reaffirming his administration’s support for the military, Nwifuru pledged to maintain peaceful relations between host communities and security personnel while ensuring a conducive environment for the depot’s operations.

He congratulated the pioneer recruits on completing their training and urged them to serve the nation with discipline, courage, integrity, and unwavering patriotism.
