Governor distances himself from Agbebaku’s removal, tells Yekini to embrace transparency, teamwork and inclusive leadership.
Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, has urged the newly elected Speaker of the Edo State House of Assembly, Idiaye Yekini, to promote peace, unity and transparency in the legislative chamber.
Governor Okpebholo gave the charge on Monday when Yekini led the new Assembly leadership on a visit to the Edo Government House, following the resignation of former Speaker Blessing Agbebaku.

The governor distanced himself from Agbebaku’s removal, saying whatever happened within the Assembly should remain a matter for the lawmakers.
He urged the new Speaker to set aside personal differences, carry all lawmakers along and focus on serving the people of Edo State.
Governor Okpebholo described political office as temporary and advised the lawmakers to approach their responsibilities with humility and accountability.
He warned that excluding lawmakers from the affairs of the Assembly could create fresh divisions, urging Yekini to build an inclusive leadership that would strengthen cooperation within the chamber.
The governor expressed hope that the Assembly would remain peaceful throughout the remaining period of the current legislative session, noting that the chamber had experienced relative stability in the past two years.
He also urged lawmakers to strengthen their presence in their constituencies ahead of next year’s general elections and work towards electoral success.
Responding, Yekini assured the governor that the Assembly would provide the necessary support for his administration and work with him to advance the development of Edo State.
The new Speaker said the lawmakers were proud of the governor’s performance and committed to providing the legislative support required to move the state forward.
