The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has extended the ongoing nationwide Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise by an additional two weeks.
The commission also announced the introduction of an online self-service registration platform to enable eligible first-time voters complete their registration process digitally.

The development was disclosed in a statement issued on Friday and signed by the National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, Mohammed Kudu Haruna.
According to INEC, the decision followed a review of the exercise as well as feedback received from state offices, political parties, civil society organisations, and other stakeholders.
The CVR exercise, which began on August 18, 2025, was initially scheduled to end on July 10, 2026, but has now been extended to Friday, July 24, 2026, to allow more eligible Nigerians to register ahead of future elections.
INEC said the extension reflects its commitment to ensuring that every eligible citizen has a fair opportunity to be included in the National Register of Voters.
The commission also unveiled an online portal that will allow applicants to initiate and complete their voter registration, including biometric capture, using personal devices without physically visiting INEC offices.
It explained that the platform includes step-by-step guidance for users, as well as security features such as identity verification, biometric validation, and backend integrity checks to safeguard the credibility of the voters’ register.
INEC urged eligible Nigerians who are yet to register to take advantage of both the extended timeline and the new digital option, reaffirming its commitment to a more inclusive and technology-driven electoral process ahead of the 2027 general elections.
