New remuneration structure for academic, non-academic staff takes effect from January 2026, payments begin in September.

Kano State Governor, Abba Yusuf, has approved a new salary structure for academic and non-academic staff of Aliko Dangote University of Science and Technology, Wudil, and Northwest University, Kano.

The governor’s spokesman, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, disclosed this in a statement on Monday, saying the decision aligns with the Federal Government’s revised remuneration package for university workers.

According to the statement, the new salary structure takes effect from January 2026, while actual payments will commence in September, with the state government committing ₦391.8 million monthly, or about ₦4.7 billion annually, to the two institutions.

Aliko Dangote University will receive ₦228.2 million monthly, comprising ₦141.1 million for academic staff and ₦87.1 million for non-academic workers.

Northwest University will receive ₦163.7 million monthly, with ₦112.2 million allocated to academic staff and ₦51.4 million for non-academic staff.

To settle immediate obligations, the government approved ₦1.57 billion in the 2026 supplementary budget to cover payments from September to December.

The statement added that salary arrears estimated at ₦3.13 billion for January to August 2026 would be captured in the 2027 budget.

The government said the move was aimed at improving staff welfare, promoting industrial harmony and enhancing productivity across the universities.

Yusuf also approved the constitution of visitation panels for the two universities and other tertiary institutions in the state, saying the panels would strengthen accountability, improve administration and ensure effective management.

The governor reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to strengthening higher education and improving workers’ welfare as part of its human capital development agenda.
