Governor assures families of ongoing rescue efforts as NLC, NUT and NANS stage solidarity rally for victims.
Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has called on all levels of government, security agencies, and citizens to unite in efforts to secure the release of pupils and teachers abducted from schools in the Yawota and Ahoro Esiele communities of Oriire Local Government Area.
Speaking on Tuesday while receiving leaders of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), and the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) during a peaceful solidarity rally in Ibadan, Makinde described the incident as a national tragedy that should not be politicised. He said the focus should be on rescuing the victims rather than assigning blame, stressing that insecurity remains a challenge that requires collective action from both federal and state authorities.

The governor disclosed that he has been in constant contact with federal authorities and security operatives deployed to the state, expressing confidence that the abducted pupils and teachers would be safely returned. He urged students, workers, and teachers to remain calm and trust the government’s ongoing efforts.
Makinde also assured stakeholders that his administration would consider proposals aimed at strengthening the state’s security architecture after the victims are rescued. Leaders of NANS, NLC, and NUT commended the governor’s response but urged him to intensify rescue efforts and improve security around schools. The abductees were taken from their schools about two weeks ago, sparking nationwide outrage, protests, and renewed calls for stronger measures to combat kidnapping and insecurity.
