Federal Government describes late Father Amir as a visionary leader who transformed Qatar and strengthened global cooperation.
The Federal Government has expressed deep sorrow over the death of His Highness Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, the Father Amir and former Emir of the State of Qatar.
In a statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Sunday, Nigeria described the late leader as a visionary statesman whose leadership transformed Qatar into a modern global nation and strengthened its international influence.
The ministry noted that Sheikh Hamad, who ruled Qatar from 1995 to 2013, would be remembered for his commitment to progress, development and international cooperation.
On behalf of the Federal Government, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, extended condolences to the Amir of Qatar, His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, the Al Thani family and the people of Qatar.
The statement reaffirmed Nigeria’s solidarity with Qatar during the period of mourning and prayed for the peaceful repose of the late Father Amir.
The Federal Government also prayed that Almighty God grant Sheikh Hamad eternal rest and give his family, the leadership of Qatar and its people the strength and comfort to bear the loss.
