Panel to investigate circumstances surrounding the 56-day kidnapping ordeal and recommend measures to prevent future incidents.
The Oyo State Government has constituted a Judicial Commission of Inquiry to investigate the abduction of pupils and teachers at Esinele and Yawota communities in Oriire Local Government Area on May 15, 2026.
The development was disclosed in a statement issued by the Commissioner for Information, Prince Dotun Oyelade, who said the Judicial Commission of Inquiry would be inaugurated on Friday at the Executive Council Chamber, Governor’s Office, Ibadan.

According to the commissioner, the panel has been mandated to unravel the circumstances surrounding the abduction and make appropriate recommendations to the government.
Oyelade recalled that Governor Seyi Makinde, during his statewide broadcast following the release of the abducted pupils and teachers, had pledged to establish an independent inquiry into the incident. He added that the governor also called on the United Nations to intervene and investigate the kidnapping, which lasted 56 days.
He explained that the establishment of the Judicial Commission of Inquiry underscores the government’s determination to uncover the facts behind the incident, ensure accountability where necessary and strengthen measures to prevent a recurrence.
The state government reiterated its commitment to the safety of pupils, teachers and residents, noting that the outcome of the inquiry would help improve security across schools and communities in Oyo State.
