The victims were allegedly lured to Nigeria and had their travel documents confiscated by suspected members of a transnational trafficking network.
Operatives of the Nigeria Police Force attached to the National Central Bureau (NCB-INTERPOL), Lagos Annex, have rescued two Colombian women allegedly held captive by a human trafficking syndicate in Lagos.
The Force Public Relations Officer, Ani Iniedu, said in a statement on Saturday that the rescue followed actionable intelligence received from INTERPOL-NCB, Bogotá, on August 26, 2026.
According to the statement, the women were allegedly lured to Nigeria under false pretences and held against their will, while their travel documents were confiscated by suspected Chinese nationals.
Police operatives launched a covert operation after receiving the intelligence and located the victims at a hideout in Lagos, where they were rescued the same day.
The suspected traffickers reportedly fled the location when they sighted the approaching police team. The police said efforts are ongoing to track and arrest all members of the syndicate.
The victims are currently receiving necessary support, while the Colombian Embassy in Accra is working with the NCB-INTERPOL to arrange accommodation and emergency travel documents for their return to Bogotá.
Inspector-General of Police Olatunji Disu reaffirmed the police commitment to combating transnational crimes and strengthening cooperation with international law enforcement agencies.
