President Bola Tinubu has congratulated Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, on his re-election, describing the outcome of the August 15 governorship election as a reflection of the will of the people.

President Tinubu, in a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, on Sunday, said he had personally called Adeleke to congratulate him on his victory.

The President said Adeleke’s re-election confirmed the confidence Osun voters have in him and demonstrated that democracy continues to thrive in Nigeria.

He also commended the other candidates for the courage and discipline they displayed during the election, saying their participation contributed to strengthening the country’s democratic culture.

President Tinubu wished Governor Adeleke success in his second term and urged him to unite the people of Osun State irrespective of their political affiliations.

He also called on the governor to rally residents towards growth, stability and social and economic development.

Adeleke, who contested on the platform of the Accord Party, defeated his closest challenger, Bola Oyebamiji of the All Progressives Congress (APC), to secure another four-year term.

According to the Returning Officer, Joshua Ogunwole, Adeleke polled 511,067 votes, while Oyebamiji scored 444,815 votes. Najeem Salaam of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) came third with 17,180 votes.

President Tinubu, who is also an APC member, commended the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and security agencies for conducting what he described as a peaceful and transparent election that produced a clear winner.
