President directs emergency measures, demands 72-hour security action plan as Shettima visits institute following attack that claimed two soldiers and a police officer.

President Bola Tinubu has ordered the immediate reinforcement of security at the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS), Kuru, Plateau State, following a recent attack that left two soldiers and a police officer dead.

Vice President Kashim Shettima conveyed the directive during a visit to the institute, where he assured staff and participants that the Federal Government would take decisive steps to prevent a recurrence.

According to Shettima, the President has directed the activation of emergency security measures and instructed the Director-General of National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies to work with the military, police and DSS to fortify the institution’s perimeter.

He disclosed that a comprehensive security action plan covering surveillance, personnel deployment, access control and emergency response systems must be submitted within 72 hours, with weekly progress reports until completion.

The Vice President described NIPSS as a critical national institution and vowed that the sacrifice of the fallen security personnel would not be in vain, assuring their families of government support.

Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang also approved requests for a security buffer zone and improved security infrastructure around the institute, while NIPSS Director-General Ayo Omotayo called for additional personnel and surveillance equipment, including CCTV cameras.

The attack occurred earlier this week when gunmen breached the institute’s perimeter fence and engaged security operatives in a gun battle before fleeing the scene.
