Ravec to reassess protection for Sussexes as couple prepare to relocate to Britain with their children.
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are set to undergo a fresh security assessment after plans emerged for the couple to relocate with their two children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, from the United States to the United Kingdom later this month.
The Sussexes are expected to move into a private residence outside London, with their children reportedly due to begin school in the UK next month.
According to the BBC, the Home Office said security arrangements for members of the Royal Family are determined by the Royal and VIP Executive Committee (Ravec), an independent body overseen by the department.
The Home Office stressed that the Prime Minister does not personally decide the security arrangements for members of the Royal Family.
Ravec is expected to review Harry and Meghan’s protection because their previous arrangements were based on the couple not living permanently in the UK.
The Home Office described the country’s protective security system as “rigorous and proportionate” but declined to disclose details, saying such information could compromise security.
Harry and Meghan are not expected to return as full-time working royals. However, their public profile, connection to the Royal Family and Harry’s military service could be considered during the assessment.
It remains unclear whether Harry will receive taxpayer-funded protection at the level he has previously sought. If the couple do not receive the level of protection they want, they could privately fund additional security.
Harry previously told the BBC that he could not see a future in which he would bring his family back to the UK following changes to his security arrangements.
Their reported move follows a July reunion with King Charles at his Highgrove residence in Gloucestershire, where Harry, Meghan and their children met the monarch in person for the first time in more than four years.
The relocation would also place Harry closer to several UK commitments, including the 2027 Invictus Games in Birmingham and events marking the 30th anniversary of Princess Diana’s death.
The couple are expected to retain their California home, while Meghan continues her media and business activities.
For now, the level of protection Harry, Meghan and their children will receive in Britain remains unresolved and will be determined by Ravec.
