Kvaratskhelia and Doué score as Champions League holders edge Europa League winners in Salzburg.
Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) began their new season with another European trophy after defeating Aston Villa 2-1 to win the UEFA Super Cup in Salzburg on Wednesday.
Khvicha Kvaratskhelia opened the scoring for PSG in the 20th minute with a powerful strike after cutting in from the left, before Aston Villa teenager Brian Madjo equalised just before half-time.

The 17-year-old striker, making his senior debut for Villa, fired John McGinn’s cross into the roof of the PSG net in the 45th minute.

PSG restored their lead in the 61st minute through Désiré Doué after VAR overturned an offside decision. The technology showed that Villa defender Matty Cash had played the French winger onside.
Villa pushed for an equaliser but PSG goalkeeper Matvey Safonov made several important saves to preserve his side’s advantage.
The Premier League side came closest late on when Tammy Abraham narrowly failed to connect with a cut-back inside the six-yard box.

PSG, who won their first Champions League title in May, held on to claim the Super Cup and add another European trophy to their collection.
The French champions fielded nine players from the team that defeated Arsenal in the Champions League final, while Villa handed debuts to João Gomes and Madjo.
The victory gives Luis Enrique’s side an early trophy as they begin their domestic campaign, with PSG targeting another Champions League title after becoming European champions last season.
