President Bola Tinubu

Aso Rock says Obi’s demand is politically motivated, insists Tinubu is delivering results on security and economic reforms.

The Presidency has rejected calls by Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, for President Bola Tinubu to resign, describing the demand as “childish and hollow.”

In a statement on Monday, Presidential Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, said Obi’s remarks were a political distraction coming shortly after the APC recorded major victories in recent elections.

Onanuga argued that Obi wrongly compared Nigeria’s presidential system with the United Kingdom’s parliamentary democracy, stressing that President Tinubu was elected for a fixed four-year term.

The Presidency also defended the administration’s performance, citing progress in security operations, economic reforms, infrastructure development, student loan implementation, and power sector improvements.

While acknowledging current economic challenges, Onanuga maintained that the government remains focused on delivering reforms and improving citizens’ welfare, accusing Obi of presenting a distorted view of the country’s realities.

He added that President Tinubu is concentrating on governance and solutions rather than political rhetoric, insisting that Nigeria is making steady progress under the administration.
