Lawmakers urge FG to prosecute terrorists, strengthen security as attacks on military personnel escalate.
The Senate has called on the Federal Government to suspend the rehabilitation and reintegration programme for former Boko Haram members, insisting that terrorists should be arrested and prosecuted instead.
The resolution followed a motion sponsored by Senator Abdulaziz Yar’Adua during Tuesday’s plenary over the rising attacks, abductions and killings of serving and retired military personnel across the country.

Lawmakers also directed Senate committees on security to intensify oversight of security agencies and ensure the nation’s security chiefs step up efforts to address the worsening security situation.
The Senate further resolved that a delegation led by Senate President Godswill Akpabio should meet with President Bola Tinubu to discuss the growing insecurity and recommend urgent measures.
While presenting the motion, Yar’Adua cited several cases involving the abduction and killing of serving and retired military officers, warning that the trend poses a serious threat to national security and undermines the country’s security architecture.
The Senate maintained that suspending the rehabilitation programme and ensuring the prosecution of terrorists would strengthen public confidence and reinforce Nigeria’s fight against insecurity.
