… gives National Assembly seven days to act or face legal action.

The Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) has urged the leadership of the National Assembly to refer allegations involving over ₦6.3 billion in unaccounted constituency project funds to anti-corruption agencies for investigation and possible prosecution.

In a letter dated June 27, 2026, addressed to Senate President Godswill Akpabio and Speaker of the House of Representatives Tajudeen Abbas, SERAP called for the prosecution of anyone found culpable and the recovery of all diverted public funds.

The letter, signed by SERAP’s Deputy Director, Kolawole Oluwadare, said the allegations were contained in the Auditor-General of the Federation’s 2022 Annual Report, published on September 9, 2025.

SERAP also demanded that the National Assembly disclose the identities of contractors, companies, their shareholders, and beneficial owners who allegedly received constituency project funds but failed to execute the projects.

The organisation gave the National Assembly seven days to respond, warning that it would institute legal action if its demands were ignored.

According to SERAP, the Auditor-General’s report uncovered alleged financial irregularities across several federal agencies, including the Environmental Health Registration Council of Nigeria (EHORECON), the Federal College of Animal Health and Production Technology, Vom, the Federal Polytechnic, Ukana, the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP), and the National Institute of Legislative and Democratic Studies (NILDS).

The report allegedly identified cases involving payments into private bank accounts, contracts awarded without due process, payments for projects not executed, procurement violations, undocumented expenditures, and inflated contracts.

SERAP maintained that constituency project funds are meant to improve the lives of Nigerians and that any diversion of such funds deprives citizens of essential public services and development.

The organisation urged the National Assembly to demonstrate accountability by ensuring a thorough investigation into the allegations and recovering any public funds found to have been mismanaged.
