Six Burnt To Death In Adamawa Auto Accident

Head-on collision involving military truck and commercial bus leaves six dead as police begin identification of victims.

Six people, including four members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), lost their lives in a fatal road accident on Wednesday along the Narehi axis of Girei-Song Local Government Area of Adamawa State.

According to the Adamawa State Police Command, the crash involved a military gun truck travelling from Gombi to Yola and a commercial Hummer bus conveying passengers from Yola to Mubi. Preliminary investigations revealed that the two vehicles collided head-on, causing the commercial bus to overturn and burst into flames.

Police spokesman, Suleiman Nguroje, disclosed that all five passengers in the commercial bus were burnt beyond recognition, while one military personnel attached to the gun truck also died in the accident. Four of the deceased passengers were identified as serving NYSC members, including Suleuman Juliet and Usman Shuaibu, both from Kaduna State, while efforts are ongoing to identify the remaining victims and contact their families.

The bodies have been deposited at the Specialist Hospital in Yola. The Commissioner of Police in Adamawa State expressed condolences to the bereaved families, the Nigerian Armed Forces, the NYSC and all those affected by the tragic incident.
