The bodies of three siblings have been found near a river on a farm around the Owena Army Barracks area of Akure, Ondo State.

The deceased were identified as 11-year-old twins, Joshua and Jacob Jonah, and their five-year-old sister, Blessing Jonah.

The children had reportedly accompanied their father, Samuel Jonah, to the farm on Friday before leaving for home ahead of him.

They were declared missing after they failed to return home, prompting relatives, neighbours and other residents to launch a search.

Their bodies were found on Saturday near the bank of a small river within the farm.

Confirming the incident in a statement on Sunday, the Ondo State Police Command spokesperson, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, said an investigation had commenced to determine the circumstances surrounding the deaths.

Jimoh said, “The Ondo State Police Command confirms the tragic loss of three siblings at a farm located around the Owena Army Barracks, Akure, on 4th September 2026.”

He said the children were discovered missing after their father returned home from the farm, following which a search operation was immediately launched.

According to him, the children’s remains had been released to the family for burial, while efforts were ongoing to establish the exact cause of death.

Jimoh sympathised with the bereaved family and urged parents and guardians to closely monitor children, particularly around rivers, ponds and other potentially dangerous water bodies.
